Mobile operators have used intelligence in their networks and OSS for a while. What has changed recently is how new techniques (e.g., generative AI and/or agentic AI) can be applied, often on top of traditional methods, to accelerate the use of AI in the network domain and move telcos along their journey to higher levels of network autonomy. This forecast estimates the value for vendors of selling AI-enabled solutions to mobile operators to support their network and OSS processes.

This is the first release of our vendor TAM forecast for AI solutions in the telco network and OSS (beta release)

This forecast estimates the total addressable market value for vendors selling AI solutions for use cases in the mobile telco network and OSS. As some telcos develop their own AI solutions internally, we also calculate the value of the DIY market, since it presents an additional pocket of value for vendors if they develop the relevant capabilities and the telcos are comfortable with externalising the underlying processes (they may not be where processes involve externally sharing sensitive data).

The objectives of this forecast are to:

  • Get an overall value of the opportunity for vendors if they further enhance their existing solutions with AI or create AI-enabled solutions for new use cases;
  • Identify the use cases with the strongest demand from telcos, therefore likely to provide the most value for vendors in the next five years;
  • Estimate a breakdown of this value between distinct buckets: infrastructure (i.e. what additional compute capacity might telcos need, if any, to run AI-enabled solutions in the network and OSS, or store the underlying data and/or models), platform, application (i.e. the provision of the solution itself, e.g. traffic analysis or power management), and value from any additional services (solution set-up, integration to the telco environment) etc.

This is a beta release. This means that we have followed due process to prepare and publish this forecast but we expect it to change as we further discuss our findings with the industry.

Our forecast is available at regional level for seven regions and the world; these and interactive graphs are shown in a downloadable Excel dashboard (available to subscribers only). This release focuses on the mobile network.

The overall market for AI solutions in the mobile telco network and OSS will reach USD18bn by 2030

The total addressable market for AI solutions in the mobile network and OSS will grow from USD11.2 billion in 2024 to USD17.6 billion by 2030. This is equivalent to a CAGR 8% per year over the period. This reflects primarily that more vendor solutions and platforms will become available throughout the forecast period, rather than vendors being able to charge more to add intelligence to existing solutions. This figure also includes the DIY part of the market, i.e. the value which telcos have to put in themselves to internally developed the AI solutions which they need.
