Traditional telcos that are focused on manually-managed connectivity will no longer be viable by 2030. Telcos must transform their core businesses into more efficient and flexible infrastructure companies (infracos). But if they also want to accelerate growth and fully capitalise on their network investments, telcos need to build innovative services businesses (servcos). Strengths in both the servco and infraco business can be built on to evolve towards the telecoms techco.
In our Telecoms 2030 Part 3: Pathways to servco, infraco and techco report, we provide a detailed definition of each business model and focus on the practical steps telcos should take to achieve success by 2030. We explore how telcos, using examples, can strengthen their positions as an infraco or servco and progress towards becoming a successful telecom techco.
This report explores these concepts further, with more detailed real-world examples. We analyse five operators – Elisa, Swisscom, Lumen, Console Connect and TDC (functionally split into TDC Net and Nuuday) – examining their progression towards infraco, servco, and telecom techco models.
