The interview process

AT STL Partners, the recruitment process is designed to give you a deep dive into our business, the role, and the industry at large. Along the way, we hope you’ll not only showcase your talents, but also learn something new.

Throughout the process, our recruitment team will be your guide, providing regular updates and support to ensure you are fully informed.

Consulting

Application

We encourage you to highlight your relevant qualifications, skills and professional experiences in your CV and covering letter. We want to understand your interest in consulting, why you’re excited about STL Partners and the telecoms and tech industry, and what unique skills and experience you bring to the table.

Interview

The initial interviews will allow us to assess your consulting and analytical skills and experience, sometimes with the use of a case study. Our structured interview format ensures a fair and consistent experience for all candidates. This is also your opportunity to get to know us better and ask lots of questions.

Presentation

You will deliver a presentation (prepared in advance) in front of a panel of colleagues. We will assess your presentation and your analytical and communication skills.

Written

For more senior hires in the consulting team, you will be assessed on your writing skills.

Director interview

You will meet a consultant director or principal consultant and these interviews tend to be in-person at the STL Partners office in Highbury & Islington.


Research

Application

We encourage you to highlight your relevant qualifications, skills and professional experiences in your CV and covering letter. We want to understand your interest in research, why you’re excited about STL Partners and the telecoms and tech industry, and what unique skills and experience you bring to the table.

Interview

Our interview process begins with an interview conducted by either an experienced analyst or our research director and this is an opportunity to find out more about you and also for you to find out more about STL. During this interview, we will explore your motivations for applying and evaluate your skills and experience for the role.

Written assessment

You will be tasked with writing an article on a TMT topic that we will share in advance. The assessment is designed to evaluate your writing style, how effectively you can structure an argument – key skills for the analyst role.

Presentation

You will deliver a presentation (prepared in advance). This stage assesses your ability to convey a narrative, demonstrate your analytical thinking as well as understand your knowledge and commercial awareness.

Meet the team and excel test

In the final stage, you’ll have the opportunity to meet several members of the research team. It will be an informal meeting. This is your chance to ask questions, learn more about the team, and discuss your experience. Additionally, you’ll complete a short excel test to assess your proficiency.
