The huge wave of AI has accelerated demand for cloud, but it has also triggered questions on whether deploying in centralised environments is always suitable, or if enterprises should instead consider the edge. Our edge AI forecast identifies the value of this opportunity, pointing to the use cases and the verticals that are driving growth, and determining the extent to which AI will stimulate more revenue at the edge.
This is the first iteration of STL Partners’ revenue forecast for the edge AI market
This forecast shows country-level revenue estimates for 74 countries, seven regions and the world; these and interactive graphs are shown in a downloadable dashboard available to our Edge Insights Service subscribers. This report is based on a forecast model analysing the demand for edge computing from 12 main use cases and the projected spend over the 2023–2030 period across the value chain.
The objectives of this forecast are to:
- Better understand where AI workloads will be run across different types of edge infrastructure;
- Identify which verticals will demand edge infrastructure for AI workloads the most;
- Determine which edge AI use cases will drive the most value by 2030;
- Evaluate the different roles played by AI inferencing and model fine-tuning at the edge.
Our edge AI market forecast model is developed as an extension of our full edge computing market sizing forecast and the use cases included within it. In addition, we forecast network edge data centre capacity, the output of which (dataset and report) is available here.
These three forecasts are part of our Edge Insights Service which also includes a portfolio of:
- Reports and articles
- Edge computing use case directory
- Edge computing ecosystem tool

Edge AI addressable revenue will reach USD157 billion by 2030
High-level findings from the model indicate that:
- STL Partners’ bottom-up analysis of 12 leading edge AI use cases points to a total addressable market (TAM) reaching USD157bn by 2030.
- The proportion of revenue directly attributable to AI will grow from 69% in 2024 to 72% in 2030, as applications become increasingly infused with AI, making the technology integral to the delivery of use cases.
- Computer vision will be the largest edge AI use case in 2030, representing 50% of the entire edge AI addressable market.
