Multimedia Market Entry

What was done?

We have conducted 2 projects for Dolby. Initially we gave Dolby an entry strategy into mobile for multimedia. This laid out how Dolby could provide noise improvement capabilities for mobile multimedia services (audio, video etc.). We established a global strategy that helped them to decide where and when to partner with handset manufacturers and with mobile operators. The strategy varied by geography and laid out a framework for evaluating partners in different regions. More recently we have completed a more exploratory piece of work to evaluate the opportunity for Dolby in mobile voice.

What was the result?

Dolby is now implementing the multimedia strategy and are following the framework. They recently indicated that the issues and opportunities outlined in the strategy 18 months ago have proved 'spot on' and aided them in their decision-making and commercial negotiations. They have agreed a deal with NTT Docomo in Japan and have supplied technology to Japan's fastest-selling high-end mobile device.

Benefits

Tangible revenue benefits have accrued from the strategy as they implement via contracts with handset manufacturers and operators.
